A breakthrough second half helped Siena Men's Soccer (2-1) earn its first road win of the Fall 2021 season Saturday evening at Bryant (0-3). The Saints scored a pair of late goals to take a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Following a scoreless first half with featured Siena leads in shots and corner kicks, the Saints got on the board in the 48
th minute of play thanks to a solid set piece from their new corner kick orchestrator. Freshman midfielder
Jacob Arachchige-Jensen served a ball in from the right side that was headed in by fifth year defender
Jacob Pacheco for his second goal of the season.
Arachchige-Jenson would have a hand in the team's second and final score of the night 20 minutes later, when he passed a ball down left from the top of the box to redshirt-junior defender
Antonio Linge, who crossed to the right side of the six-yard-line for freshman striker
Thomas Storodegard to finish off for his first career score.
Siena then survived several late offensive attempts from Bryant, who out-shot the Saints, 17-13, in the match and gained a 9-8 corner kick advantage by the final whistle. Senior goalkeeper
Greg Monroe registered his sixth career shutout in-net with a stellar performance, headlined by a season-best seven saves in-between-the-pipes.
After going 1-1 in a two-game road trip this past week, Siena is set to return home to Hickey Field for its next contest. The Saints will host America East foe Binghamton on Tuesday, September 7 at 4:00 PM, with the match set to air on Siena All-Access.
