Saints Bring Match to Final Court in Loss

In their opening match of the spring semester, the Siena Men's Tennis team fought to the end for the victory. With the match tied 3-3 and one court remaining, the Saints would end up on the wrong side of the result in the 4-3 loss to the LIU Sharks.

"The guys dropped a very tough one today coming down to the last court to decide match," said head coach Jeff Osborn. "I love the fight our guys showed today along with the energy the entire team brought  to the courts. Again like with the women's team, only four days of practice this week but in another month I feel like this team will be clicking on all cylinders and we will be ready for MAAC competition."

The ball got rolling early for the Saints, as they would grab the doubles point thanks to victories at #1 and #2 courtesy of the duos of Dante Russo and Tomas del Olmo, and Agustin Suarez and Nardone. Each court would win 6-4, giving Siena the 1-0 lead.

In singles, Jose Pablo Davila and Natt Nardone came out victorious at #5 and #6 singles to give Siena three points, while the Saints fell on courts 2, 3, and 4 as the Sharks tied things up. With the top court remaining in the third set, Russo couldn't hang on after taking a first match 7-6 (4) victory.

Siena return to the court tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 30 when they take on the Brown Bears on the road at 3 p.m.
