LOUDONVILLE, NY – Taylor Pennington scored the lone goal in the 18
th minute as Mount St. Mary's spoiled Siena Women's Soccer Senior Day 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.
Siena (1-9-5, 0-4-3) held slight edges in both shots (16-14) and corners (4-2) in a physical affair which featured 17 combined fouls and saw five yellow cards issued.
A closely contested match throughout, Mount St. Mary's (3-4-7, 2-3-3) took advantage of a golden opportunity in the 18
th minute when Pennington corralled a loose ball deep in the box and fired across inside the far-right post for the decisive tally.
Caitlin Wania paced the offense with four shots including all three of the Saints' attempts on target, one of which was cleared off the back line by a defender in the 81
st minute.
Brooke Boermeester returned from injury to make four saves in her first game action in over a month.
Arden Lembryk stopped two shots to record the victory for the Mount which prevailed in the first-ever meeting between the new MAAC foes, while handing Siena its fourth shutout defeat in five matches and eighth overall this season.
The Saints wrap up their regular season home slate Wednesday when they host Saint Peter's at 3 p.m.
