LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Soccer's Greg Monroe set his fifth program record of the 2022 season Wednesday, as the Saints (7-5-3, 3-2-2) dropped a tight 1-0 decision to MAAC foe Saint Peter's (2-9-2, 1-4-1) at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The graduate student goalkeeper registered three saves to become the program's all-time leader in stops, surpassing Brett Boskiewicz (1991-94) and ending the day with 349 career saves – which remains the most among active players in NCAA Division I. Monroe previously set the program marks for goalkeeper wins, shutouts, matches played, and minutes played earlier this season.
Siena was unable to follow up a 2-0 road victory last Saturday, despite holding a 9-7 advantage in shots. Both teams each put four shots on-target, while the Peacocks garnered nine of 11 total corner kick attempts.
Saint Peter's held the edge in the closely-contested mi-week battle thanks to a goal in the 41st minute from Matt Hoyt, who quickly one-timed a ball into the far right of the net following a pair of quick passes. Siena held a one-shot advantage in both halves but could not find a response, with sophomore Zach Gardner leading the way offensively with three shot attempts.
The Saints will look to rebound by hosting two of their final regular season matches at Hickey Field, with the first coming in the form of Senior Day on Saturday, October 22 against Iona at 2 PM. Siena will honor seven graduating members of its roster prior to kickoff, while action will air live on ESPN3.
