LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Soccer has entered the part of its season where every point in conference play counts. The Saints (7-5-4, 3-2-3) continued to chip away in close MAAC competition, playing rival Iona (3-4-4, 3-0-4) to a scoreless draw at Hickey Field on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
After honoring its seven graduating members prior to the start of the match, the Saints faced an offensive attack from the Gaels throughout the course of the match. Despite extending its unbeaten streak to eight, Iona came away from the rivalry without a victory for the first time in the last seven meetings.
The Saints' defense held strong despite being out-shot 21-5, with no shots coming on goal for the home team. All five of Iona's shots at graduate student goalkeeper Greg Monroe were defended against successfully, with the program's all-time leader in shutouts collecting his 16th career clean sheet.
Redshirt-senior Antonio Linge joined juniors Junior Kone & Jack Mendrysa and sophomores Erik Reis & Zach Gardner in attempting shots on the day for the Green and Gold. Iona drew six of ten corner kicks on the day, while the contest featured 19 combined fouls and three yellow cards.
Siena will look to close out home play by potentially locking up a spot in the 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship, with the Saints playing host to Rider on Wednesday, October 26 at 2 PM on ESPN+.
