Siena Women's Soccer scored a pair of second half goals to secure their first MAAC victory of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Iona at Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, New York. Juniors
Grace Dimkopoulos and
Annie Bagnall both scored for the Saints who have now won 12 straight over the Gaels.
Siena (2-10-5, 1-5-3), which has eliminated Iona (8-6-4, 3-5-1) in each of the past two postseasons, quelled the Gaels' chances of clinching a MAAC Tournament berth this afternoon. The Saints have now outscored Iona by a whopping 30-7 margin during their nine-year reign of dominance over the Gaels.
Siena, which had totaled just two goals over their previous seven matches dating back to their only prior win this fall, tied a season-high with their third two-goal output.
In the 60
th minute,
Cora Keohane sent in a corner from the right which Dimkopoulos headed in for her first goal of the season. Bagnall added an insurance score late, heading in a cross from the left from Keohane in the 81
st minute for her team-lading fifth goal.
Iona held a 15-10 advantage in shots and attempted a remarkable 13 corners to the Saints' six, but Siena fended off every opportunity as
Angela Fini recorded her third shutout by posting exactly six saves for the fourth time in her last five appearances.
The Saints will look to build off their momentum and end the season on a high note when they travel to Rider Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
