Volleyball Back on Track with Sweep of Saint Peter’s

Saints Win 10th MAAC Match, Most Since 2016

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Volleyball team won their ninth game in 10 matches, reaching the 10-win mark in MAAC play for the first time since 2016 as they defeated the Saint Peter's Peacocks 3-0 (25-22, 25-8, 25-20) at the UHY Center on Saturday.
 
As a team, the Saints hit .336 over the three sets, with sophomore Sara Wagner leading the offensive charge with 18 kills. Senior Gracie Halley collected 17 digs on the afternoon. Graduate student Emily Wunder hit 10 kills, while junior Hailey Hinkel fell one kill shy of a double-double - finishing with nine kills and 10 digs.
 
Also with a strong performance was junior Meghan Johnsson, who tossed out 25 assists and recorded six service aces. Three Peacocks players – Elena Bilhartz, Sydney Kuzma, and Morgan Thurlow – all had six kills apiece.
 
Siena struggled early on, as the Peacocks played the Green and Gold to a 15-all tie midway through the first set. The Saints then found their groove, taking a lead behind Wagner – who finished the set strong recording three of the final six Siena points on kills.
 
Her momentum continued into the second set, as Siena got up early and scored often as they took a 25-8 win in the second set. The Saints serve rolled around, as they totaled up nine in the three sets. In the third, the trio of Wagner, Wunder, and Hinkel garnered 15 of the team's 18 kills in the frame helped the Saints keep a lead. Johnsson capped the match with an ace for the match-clinching point, giving Siena the win.
 
Siena led most statistical categories – almost doubling up the Peacocks in total kills (51-26), while leading by a wide margin in aces (9-2), blocks (6-2), and assists (45-24).
 
The Saints return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. in a rematch with the Rider Broncs at the UHY Center.
