HAMPDEN, MA – Siena Men's Golf continued to improve and bolt up the team leaderboard during the final day of the UConn Invitational at GREATHORSE in Hampden, Massachusetts on Tuesday.
Siena used day three to turn in the best team round of the entire tournament, going -2, 286 to finish at +32, 896 (318-292-286) and move from eighth place to fifth. St. John's (885) claimed the title over the 14-team field, while MAAC rivals Rider (ninth) and Iona (11th) also participated.
Three of the Saints' five-man team carded even or lower during their third time around the Par 72, 7,093-yard course, beginning with senior Matthew Ferrari, who carded four birdies in a round of -3, 69 to advance up 25 spots and tie for tenth at +7, 223. Freshman Austin Giroux shot +5, 77 on the final day to tie for 18th at +9, 225, while sophomore Dan Brooks also carded a -3, 69 to move up 22 places and tie for 22nd at +10, 226. Graduate student Brody Yates went for a round of +4. 76 to tie for 24th at +11, 227, while senior Nolan Crowley shot even, 72 to finish knotted for 48th with +19, 235 and jump 19 spots.
Following the conclusion of its fourth tournament of the fall season, Siena will turn its attention to its lone home event of the year next week. The Saints will welcome sister school St. Bonaventure to Schuyler Meadows Golf Course for The Murray Cup on Wednesday, October 12.
