Saints Rally to Salvage Another Tie

Freshman Flanagan Finds The Back of the Net

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Freshman Cate Flanagan scored her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute as Siena Women's Soccer rallied to secure their third consecutive tie with a 1-1 draw vs. Marist at Hickey Field. Angela Fini posted her third straight six-save performance in goal for the Saints who are now unbeaten in 10 of their last 12 (8-2-2) against their I-87 rivals.

A wildly entertaining match featured 39 combined shots between the MAAC foes, with Marist (3-4-5, 1-3-2) holding a 21-18 edge. The Red Foxes also harbored a 6-3 margin in corners.

Amanda Calderelli was the first half story line, registering half of Marist's 14 shots in the opening stanza, and netting the lone goal in the 17th minute off a feed from Leah Barbieri. Calderelli finished with 11 shots on the afternoon.

Siena (1-7-5, 0-2-3) responded out of the break, turning up the pressure as they chased the tying goal. The Saints came out firing, amassing a whopping nine shots in just the first 16 minutes. Annie Bagnall (50') and Rebecca Rolland (52') nearly missed equalizers in connecting with the woodwork, before Flanagan finally broke through to end the drought.

Siena controlled possession at midfield off a Red Foxes' goal kick, with Flanagan played out wide right on a through ball. She got a step on her defender, dibbled in, and blasted one across inside the top left corner to draw the Saints even. Seniors Caitlin Wania and Katrina Kurtz assisted on the play.

Siena ultimately attempted 11 second half shots during an active stanza, but couldn't forge in front as they had to settle for their third straight tie, matching the longest such streak in program history (Oct. 16-23, 2011). Moreover, the Saints' five overall ties this fall are just one off the single-season benchmark of six set back in 2014.

Siena will look to build upon its three consecutive points and return to the win column when they head to Western New York to take on Niagara Wednesday at 4 p.m.
