LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Saints were defeated by the Marist Red Foxes by a final score of 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon at the UHY Center. The Saints cel ebrated Senior Day, honoring

Ece Emrullah collected nine kills, while defensively freshman
Emily Wood notched a team-high 12 digs. For Marist, Sasha Van der Merwe had 10 kills, while Gabrielle Heller fell one kill short of a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. McKinley Fox added 22 assists for Marist.

The first set became the closest contested of the match, as both sides traded runs throughout the set. Siena took a 22-21 lead late after a small 3-0 run that was capped by a kill from
Monet Latunde. Service errors then became trouble for the Saints, as three of those mixed with a pair of Siena attack errors led the Red Foxes to their 26 points to take the set.

Marist then found their stride at the net in the second set, as well as on the serve. The Red Foxes began their blocking brigade to the tune of a 25-16 win in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Four of the Red Foxes first 10 points of the set were from the block.

In the third, Siena looked to make their way toward forcing a fourth set. The Saints built up an 18-12 lead after Wunder, Hinkel, and Emrullah went back-to-back-to-back on kills. However, Marist then scored a 12-0 run to bring them to match point, 24-18. The Saints fought back with a pair of points before Newblatt connected with a kill to complete the match for Marist.

Siena returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 AM when they take on the Canisius Golden Griffins on the road.
