EAST MEADOW, NY – Five different Saints climbed up the Program All-Time Top-Ten List as Siena Swimming & Diving continued weekend competition at the 2022 ECAC Winter Championships. Following two full days of competition, the Saints sit in eighth place at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York.
Junior Audrey Shultz and senior Elisabeth Balicanta each posted a pair of top ten times, with Shultz improving to fourth all-time in the 400 IM (4:38.32) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:06.50), while Balicanta entered the 100 fly list at eighth (59.26), and improved to sole possession of tenth in the 100 back (1:00.05).
After coming close to setting the school record in the 50 free on Friday evening, senior Rory Kalac jetted to fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.06. Junior Demi Bobarakis improved to fifth in the 100 fly (57.88), while freshman Tori Spacciapolli became the second freshman in as many days to enter a top-ten list, doing so at ninth in the 100 breast (1:07.09).
The seven total top-ten entries made up 13 total collegiate bests for the team on the day. Spacciapolli swam a new personal best in the 400 IM (4:50.14), while sophomore Shaylea Triller did so in the 200 free (1:58.01). Senior Maggie Caputo swam a collegiate best in the 100 breast (1:10.48), while freshman Kaci Owens (1:00.75), freshman Brooke Pociask (1:01.38), and junior Emily Sulik (1:03.95) did so in the 100 back.
Siena's diving pair competed in three-meter diving competition, with senior Lydia Delano scoring 222.25 points to place third, and sophomore Talia Spenziero scoring 216.40 to finish fifth.
The Green and Gold also took part in a pair of relay events, with the team of Balicanta, Spacciapolli, Bobarakis, and Kalac placing 11th with a time of 1:47.79 in the 200 medley relay, and the group of senior Reilly King, sophomore Kylie Carter, senior Lauren Ostrander, and Kalac swimming to seventh place with a time of 7:53.86 in the 800 free relay.
Siena will conclude action at the 2022 ECAC Winter Championships on Sunday, December 4, with preliminaries beginning at 9 AM and final races at 4 PM.
