BUFFALO, NY – Junior
Jessica Shine re-set and later re-broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly as Siena Swimming & Diving continued its week at the 2022 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York Friday.
The Buffalo, NY native placed third in the preliminary round with a time of 56.72, besting her own record set in 2020 by three hundredths of a second. Shine would later capture her second podium finish of the meet by taking third place in the finals with a 56.28, furthering her program-best mark and becoming the first Saint since 2019 to take home a top-3 individual finish at the MAAC Championships.
Through three days of action in Buffalo, the Green and Gold sit in sixth place with a team score of 238.5. Entering the final day of action, the team is poised to record its best finish since the 2015-16 campaign.
In addition to the 100 fly, the Saints took the pool for five other events Friday and placed at least one finalist in each. Senior
Abigail Sheridan placed 15
th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.16 to advance to the final round, finishing 16
th in the evening heats.
The 200 free featured a meet-high three Saints advancing to the final heats, with freshman
Maddie Buck collecting her second All-MAAC finish of the meet. The Hampden, ME native swam a time of 1:54.72 and placed fifth in the finals with a time of 1:54.58 to move to third on the All-Time Top Ten Times List. Freshman
Kylie Carter's mark of 1:55.13 was good for fifth on the all-time list and a ninth-place finish in the prelims, with a time of 1:56.05 good for 12
th place result in the finals. Senior
Rory Kalac advanced to her second final of the meet with a time of 1:55.57 for eighth all-time, while her time of 1:56.22 placed her 14
th in the finals. Freshman
Shaylea Triller (1:58.08) and sophomore
Natalie Colaizzo (2:03.49) each put forth personal bests in the event during the preliminary round.
The 100 breast featured freshman
Olivia Martin moving into sixth all-time with a time of 1:06.74 and a seventh-place finish in the prelims, and also took seventh in the finals with a mark of 1:06.83. Other best times in the 100 breast came from senior
Sarah Duggan (1:10.12), and junior
Ellie Murphy (1:11.55).
Senior
Isabel Harms went to the finals in the 100 back with a 12
th place finish and a time of 58.15 to move to second all-time in the event, and later tied for 11
th in the finals with a mark of 58.09. Junior
Elisabeth Balicanta went for a time of 1:00.25 to finish 18
th in the preliminary round and tie for 10
th all-time, while
Kristyn Sampath set a personal best with a time of 1:06.20.
Junior
Lydia Delano walked away from the meet with her second All-MAAC finish, taking fourth in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 203.35. Sophomore
Talia Spenziero finished second in the consolation final and tenth overall with scores of 180.55 and 168.20.
The Saint ended day three action with a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay, featuring a time of 3:54.36 from the team of Harms, Martin, Shine, and Kalac. Through three days of action, Siena has seen 11 new entries into the program's top-ten all-time performances list.
The 2022 MAAC Championships will conclude on Saturday, February 12 with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay.
