LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The MAAC's two hottest teams serve as the opening act on Super Bowl Sunday when Siena Basketball battles Rider at 1 p.m. at Alumni Gymnasium. Both squads have won five of six, with the Saints seeking to avenge their only loss during the stretch.
Siena (11-9, 6-4) is looking to build off an impressive 70-64 victory over first-place Iona late Friday night in a nationally televised primetime showdown at MVP Arena. The Saints have surged into third-place in the MAAC Standings with their recent success, and enter the day just a half-game back of idle second-place Saint Peter's.
Meanwhile Rider (10-13, 6-7) has been equally hot, winning four straight to vault back into contention in the MAAC Standings. The Broncs themselves are coming off a strong showing Friday night, having held the Peacocks without a field goal for 12:32 down the stretch in a 58-49 win in Jersey City.
The squads meet for the second time in nine days, with the Saints looking to secure a split of the season series. Rider prevailed 74-60 on Feb. 4 to snap a six-game losing streak at MVP Arena, and notch their first win over Siena in Albany in a decade. The Saints have controlled the all-time series, leading 36-19 overall, and have won nine of the past 13 meetings.
