Siena (12-10, 9-5) continues a critical five-game, 10-day stretch with a golden opportunity to bounce back from a tough loss Friday night and sweep Saint Peter's (12-10, 10-5) to clinch a vital tiebreaker with the Peacocks. The road gets no easier for the Saints as, following this afternoon's tilt, they play Monmouth twice in the course of six days next week with a road matchup at Quinnipiac sandwiched in-between. The Hawks currently sit in fourth place in the MAAC Standings - a half-game back of Siena - while the Bobcats hold down fifth entering Sunday's slate.
The Saints hope this year's trends continue to work in their favor this afternoon, as Siena is a perfect 6-0 this season on just one day of rest, and 6-1 in day games. The Saints have averaged better than 10 points per game more on just one days rest while shooting a solid 47% from the field, and have held their opponents to just 64.4 points on 40% shooting in afternoon tilts.
Saint Peter's took advantage of Siena's 62-53 setback vs. Marist at MVP Arena Friday night, leapfrogging the Saints into second-place in the MAAC Standings with a 70-59 triumph at Fairfield. The Peacocks snapped a two-game slide with their victory Friday night, and continue a tough stretch this afternoon where they play four of five away from Jersey City.
Siena and Saint Peter's meet for the 98th time, with the Peacocks leading the all-time series 52-45. The Saints are in search of their first regular season series sweep of Saint Peter's in a dozen years dating back to the 2009-10 season, after escaping the first meeting 60-58 on Dec. 5 at Run Baby Run Arena. Siena led by as many as 24 points in the second half - and still held a 23-point advantage with 7:37 left - before surviving 21 unanswered points from the Peacocks down the stretch.
