Saints Open Road Trip at Saint Peter’s Thursday Night

Women’s Hoops Faces Three Straight Away From Loudonville This Weekend

The Siena Saints hit the road for the three-game in five day stretch, all beginning on Thursday evening as the Green and Gold take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks at the Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, New Jersey at 7 p.m.

For the second time in two weeks, the Siena Saints couldn't find a way around the highly-ranked defense of the Niagara Purple Eagles as the Saints fell 65-58 at the UHY Center on Monday afternoon.

Sisters Aaliyah and Angel Parker combined for 36 of Niagara's 65 total points on the night, with Aaliyah snagging eight rebounds to pair with her team-high 19 points. Olivia Mason snatched 10 rebounds, as the Purple Eagles forced 32 Siena turnovers for the second time this season. Niagara turned those 32 turnovers into 23 points.

Leading the offensive charge for the Saints was fifth-year Rayshel Brown, as she scored a team-high 16 points with seven rebounds, two blocks, and two assists. Freshman Imani Harris added 10 points, with classmate Valencia Fontenelle-Posson pouring in nine points. Fifth-year Selena Philoxy led the battle on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Siena and Saint Peter's meet for the 77th time, with the Saints leading the series 42-34. Saint Peter's is the final team the Saints have yet to play this season in the MAAC. As a head coach, Jim Jabir is 1-2 all-time against the Peacocks - all at Siena. The last time he faced Saint Peter's was in the MAAC Semifinals on Mar. 10, 1990. The Saints topped Saint Peter's 56-51 in that game.

The last time the two teams met was last season on Feb. 27 at New Jersey City University, as the Green and Gold would fall by a final score of 62-54, finishing 0-2 on the weekend to the Peacocks.

Siena was led by a 10-point showing from junior Amari Anthony. Senior Marilena Gerostergiou provided the muscle in the paint with 11 rebounds, and junior Haley Blasetti tossed out four assists. The Saints shot 45.8 percent from the field in the first half, before falling to a 23.1 percent clip in the second half.

Freshman Ajia James went for 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Saint Peter's. After a strong showing on Friday, redshirt senior Taiah Thornton scored 14 points and dished 10 asssits on Saturday as she her and James were two of four Peacocks that scored in double-figures. Kendrea Williams and Tyara McQueen were the other two, finishing with 12 and 10, respectively.

Saint Peter's (8-12, 5-6) currently sit seventh in the MAAC standings with just a little under a month left in the season. They have a 5-6 record in conference. The team sits behind Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Manhattan, Siena, Monmouth, and Niagara. Saint Peter's has a 1-6 record combined against those teams. Saint Peter's sat in the top four prior to the recent three-game losing streak. The Peacocks are 4-0 against teams below them in the conference standings.
