Swimming & Diving Begins MAAC Championships with Diving, Relays

Saints’ Diving Pair Earned All-MAAC Honors

BUFFALO, NY – Both divers on Siena Swimming & Diving took home All-MAAC honors in the one-meter diving event, highlighting day one action for the Saints at the 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.

Through three events, the Saints sit in fifth place with 71 points. Defending MAAC Champion Fairfield leads the tean-team field through day one with 109 points.

Sophomore Talia Spenziero placed first in the preliminary round Wednesday afternoon, while junior and 2020 MAAC Rookie Diver of the Meet Lydia Delano took eighth, advancing both to the final round, which cemented Delano's second and Spenziero's first All-MAAC Diving honor. Spenziero took seventh in the finals with a score of 186.70, while Delano finished eighth with a mark of 164.65. Both divers will take part in the three-meter diving event later in the week.

The swimming portion of the first day of action kicked off with the running of the 200 medley and 800 free relay events. The Siena team of senior Isabel Harms, freshman Olivia Martin, junior Jessica Shine, and junior Rory Kalac placed eighth with a time of 1:46.63, which represented greater than a two second improvement from the team's seed time entering the event. The Saints finished sixth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:48.40 swam by the group of Shine, freshman Kylie Carter, junior Lauren Ostrander, and junior Reilly King. The performance shaved off over six seconds from the team's seed time.

An eventful day two of the MAAC Championships will commence on Thursday, February 10, with several preliminary races at 10 AM, followed by final events at 6 PM. Siena will take the pool for the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free, as well as the three-meter diving preliminary and final events.
