Men’s Lacrosse Fall Late at Marist

Red Foxes Score Game-Winner in Final Minute, Steal Win From Saints

The Siena Men's Lacrosse team couldn't hang onto a late lead on Saturday night, as they fell to the Marist Red Foxes by a final score of 11-10 with the Red Foxes scoring the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left on the clock.

Marist's Jojo Pirreca led all scorers with three goals and a pair of assists for five total points and five ground balls. James Lyons topped all goal-scorers on the night with four goals. Jason Intermesoli tossed out a trio of assists, and goaltender Anthony Novellano made 14 saves.

Siena had Jack Kiernan and Tyler Menniti each finish with three points apiece, with Kiernan scoring a hat trick. Pratt Reynolds, Luke Julien, and Nick Casner each finished with two points apiece. Goaltender Chris Yanchoris made 16 saves in the cage.

The Saints opened the game strong after going down two goals, scoring four straight leading into the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead. Reynolds was an early go-to option, scoring two of the first four goals.

The score then bounced back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the game, as the score tied six times and the lead changing hands five other times. With the Saints down 9-8 with 11:03 to play, junior Dylan Pape took matters into his own hands and scored on the man-down, re-tying the game at nine-all just 12 seconds later.

Menitti then scored his second of the day with 9:10 to play, giving the Saints back the lead. The Green and Gold held down defensively down the stretch, not breaking until the 1:38 mark as Marist tied the game. With the score 10-10, the Red Foxes won the ensuing faceoff and took control. From that possession, they were able to work a goal with 32 seconds to play. Siena did get an opportunity in the final seconds, with the shot sailing high of the cage.

The Saints return to action next Saturday, Apr. 2 at 11 a.m. when they head to West Long Branch to take on Monmouth.
