LATHAM, NY – On the day that the Siena Men's Tennis program honored senior
Griffin Barnett, the Green and Gold came back from a 3-0 deficit in a 4-3 victory over the Merrimack Warriors at Tri-City Fitness on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Saints have now won six of their last seven matches.
The Saints dropped the doubles point despite a victory at #2 doubles with
Dante Russo and
Jose Pablo Davila. Down 1-0 after doubles play, Siena fell in the next two singles matches that finished going down 3-0 for the match.
From there, freshman
Mathis Tremblay earned a solid 6-2, 6-4 win at #6 singles to kickstart the Saints. Senior
Tomas del Olmo followed that up with a win at #2 singles with a hard-fought three-game win. With the match now at 3-2, Davila then came through at #4 singles to tie things at 3-3 with one court remaining. It would be
Darek Kuczynski to clinch at #5 singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 to win the match.
The Saints return to action next Saturday, Apr. 2 when they open up MAAC play against Marist at Hudson Valley Community College at 1 p.m.
