SCHENECTADY, NY – Seven Fairleigh Dickinson pitchers combined on a three-hitter as FDU defeated Siena Baseball 4-2 in midweek non-conference action at Central Park.
Fairleigh Dickinson (9-15) scored a pair of runs apiece in both the second and third innings to build an early 4-0 lead. That proved to be enough offense for the Knights on a bullpen day where their staff combined to strike out nine batters.
However, the Siena (5-17) bullpen was almost equally efficient, giving the Saints a chance to remain within striking distance. Freshman
Trevor Kobryn highlighted the pitching effort, with 5.1 solid innings of relief scattering four hits and two runs while striking out three without issuing a walk.
Siena rallied with a pair of runs to halve the deficit in the eighth.
Randall Hien scored on a wild pitch, and
Donovan Montgomery delivered an RBI double to draw the Saints within two. But the Saints weren't able to complete the comeback, as the teams finished with a season split of their two midweek matchups, with the road team prevailing both times.
Siena continues its season-long nine-game homestand this weekend when they host MAAC rival Marist for a three-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
