LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Basketball Head Coach
Carmen Maciariello has announced his first two official additions for the 2022-23 season in incoming freshmen Zekeriya Yigit "Zach" Tekin and Mason Courtney.
Tekin is a 6-2, 170-pound guard from Istanbul, Turkey. He averaged 15.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in 27.1 minutes spanning 25 games played this past season as a 17-year-old for Anadolu Efes Spor Kulubu in Turkey's U19 League. Tekin competed for the Turkish U18 National Team last summer, averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 assists in 18.1 minutes over four games at the FIBA U18 European Challengers.
"Zach is a cerebral guard who will add strong ball handling, shooting, and decision making to our roster," said Maciariello. "He is a hungry and motivated student athlete who we cannot wait to welcome to Loudonville."
A local standout from nearby Clifton Park, New York, Courtney joins the Saints as a preferred walk-on after starring at Shenendehowa High School. The 6-4, 180-pound guard was named the Suburban Council Co-Player of the Year, an
Albany Times Union First Team All-Star, a
Daily Gazette of Schenectady All-Area First Team selection, and a NewsChannel 13 All-Star after averaging 21.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists for the Plainsmen this past season. A multi-sport standout, Courtney also earned Section II First Team acclaim after quarterbacking the football team to the Section II Class AA Super Bowl last fall. He also played for the Adirondack Wild Elite under the direction of head coach Frank Hart.
"We are excited for Mason to join our program," explained Maciariello. "He is a tireless worker who excels in all he does. Mason was a three-sport athlete in high school who defines the term student athlete."
Tekin and Courtney join a Siena Men's Basketball program which achieved its fourth straight top-three MAAC finish this past season.
