Christian Watts scored a hat trick and dished out an assist as he led the Siena Men's Lacrosse team to their 300
th win as a program in an 11-8 victory at Holy Cross. The win makes the Saints the 37
th team in NCAA history to reach the milestone, and makes three wins in their last four games.
Watts' performance was backed up by a trio of two-point efforts from
Seth Van Schepen,
Jack Kiernan, and
Luke Julien. Kiernan scored twice, while Van Schepen and Julien tossed in a goal and assist apiece. Senior
Christopher Yanchoris made 13 saves for his fifth win this season.
Dean DiNanno scored twice and assisted on three others. Will Spangenberg and Baker Reding each scored twice as well, with Dawson Friers making 13 saves in the cage.
Siena took the lead from the get-go, with Watts scoring less than a minute in. The Saints led 5-1 after the first 15 minutes, and taking a 6-3 lead into the half. The offense came alive in the third quarter, matching their first quarter output of five goals – highlighted by the first collegiate goal from
Jack Cavaioli. Despite being held scoreless in the fourth after leading 11-5, Yanchoris shut the door on the Crusaders to hang on for the win.
Siena returns to action next Saturday, Apr. 30 at 12 p.m. when they take on the Qunnipiac Bobcats in their regular season finale at Hickey Field.
