Bagnall Scores Twice as Women’s Soccer Ties Holy Cross

Siena Junior Netted a Pair of First Half Goals in Team’s 2022 Home Opener

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Soccer junior Annie Bagnall recorded the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career Sunday afternoon to earn her team its first non-losing decision of the 2022 season. The Saints (0-1-1) used Bagnall's offensive energy to record a 2-2 tie against Patriot League foe Holy Cross (0-0-2) at Hickey Field in the first of nine scheduled home matches this season.

Siena walked away from the tie with its third consecutive non-losing decision in a home opener, which gave them a 19-11-4 mark in home openers since 1990. The Saints are now 82-30-17 at home over the last 15 seasons, including a stellar 38-11-5 in non-conference home play.

Rebounding off a 2-0 loss at Central Connecticut last Thursday, the Saints out-shot the Crusaders, 15-8, with Bagnall getting the home team on the board in the 15th minute by converting a corner kick from sophomore Cora Keohane, who logged her first collegiate point on the play. Following a Siena own goal that equalized the game in the 27th minute, Bagnall struck again after drawing a penalty kick in the top right corner of the box, which was converted by the West Wyoming, Pennsylvania native to give the lead back to the Saints.

A scrappy second half on both sides of the pitch was highlighted by Holy Cross knotting the match at two in the 76th minute, with Francesca Ciatto putting away a ball from inside the top left corner of the box off a deflection which followed a Crusader corner kick. Sixteen of the game's 27 fouls and 14 of 23 total shots came in the second half of play, with both goalkeepers recording three saves apiece to help persevere the tie. Junior net-minder Angela Fini started for the second straight match to open the season in-between-the-pipes for the Saints.

Keohane led seven different shot-taskers for the Green and Gold with four, while Bagnall attempted a trio of shots and junior Grace Dimkopoulos joined freshmen Cate Flanagan and Micaiah Croce in logging two each.

After concluding its initial week of play in the 2022 season, the Saints will continue non-conference action with a pair of challenging road bouts next week. Siena will head east to take on New Hampshire on Thursday, August 25 at 6 PM, before journeying to face ACC opponent Syracuse on Sunday, August 28 at 1 PM.
