LOUDONVILLE, NY – Fairfield defeated Siena Women's Soccer 3-0 in the MAAC opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field. The Stags held narrow advantages in both shots (14-11) and corners (6-4), but were able to make the most of their opportunities.
Maddie Mills scored the decisive goal in the 23
rd minute for Fairfield (6-2, 1-0), finishing a long free kick from Caroline Kelly. The Stags added a pair of goals midway through the second half off the foot of Maddy Theriault (57') and courtesy of an own goal (70') to pull away.
Annie Bagnall registered five of the 11 Siena (0-6-2, 0-1) shots, while
Angela Fini made three saves.
Katie Wright stopped four shots to secure the shutout for Fairfield.
The Saints return to action – and conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule – when they make the short trip across town to battle UAlbany Thursday at 7 p.m.
