Quinnipiac, Cooke Cruise Past Women’s Soccer

Saints Fall 7-1 in Hamden

MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Rebecca Cooke erupted for four goals as Quinnipiac rolled past Siena Women's Soccer 7-1 in Hamden, Connecticut. Caitlin Wania scored for the Saints.

The rematch of last year's MAAC Semifinal once again went the way of Quinnipiac (7-1-1, 3-0), which wasted no time in jumping out to a commanding lead. The Bobcats struck for four goals in the first 14 minutes, with Cooke capping the onslaught. Ranked third nationally in both points and goals entering play, Cooke recorded a natural hat trick in the span of just 4:56. MAAC preseason favorite Quinnipiac led 5-0 at the half.

Wania broke up the shutout and got Siena (1-7-2, 0-2) on the board in the 68th minute. A corner kick from freshman Jess Knaub was pinballed in the box and punched in by Wania for her first goal of the season.

The Bobcats held commanding advantages in both shots (30-10) and corner kicks (6-1) while running their unbeaten streak to six (5-0-1) and improving to a perfect 5-0 at home.

Angela Fini and Maddie Finn each played a half in goal for the Saints, making eight and three saves, respectively.

Siena will look to bounce back Saturday when they travel to Manhattan for a 3 p.m. kick.
