LOUDONVILLE, NY – An own goal in the waning minutes gave Siena Women's Soccer some life late, but it wasn't enough as the Saints fell 2-1 to Hartford.
Brooke Boermeester made four saves for Siena which suffered only its second defeat in its past 16 home matches (10-2-4) at Hickey Field.
Siena (0-4-2) held a 12-8 shot advantage and a 4-3 margin in corners while also holding the upper hand in possession, but couldn't capitalize. Meanwhile, Hartford (4-1) took advantage of a rare opportunity in the 23
rd minute, when a failed clear following a corner was booted in by Doireann Fahey.
Imani Jenkins scored her eighth goal in five matches in the 64
th minute to provide insurance for the Hawks. The score proved to be decisive, as the Saints continued to battle and eventually broke through in the 83
rd minute.
Annie Bagnall made a nifty intercept in the attacking third, and her centering pass was mis-directed in by a Hartford defender to pull Siena within a goal with 7:24 remaining.
But the Saints couldn't find the equalizer, as the Hawks won their sixth straight in the series dating back to 2015. Bagnall,
Cora Keohane, and
Rebecca Rolland tallied three shots apiece for Siena.
Abigail McCarthy made three saves for Hartford.
The Saints continue their season long four-match homestand Thursday when they host Patriot League foe Lehigh at 4 p.m.
