Lehigh Slips Past Saints

Women’s Soccer Suffers Second Straight 2-1 Setback

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Corinne Lyght scored the decisive goal with just 5:54 remaining as Lehigh defeated Siena Women's Soccer 2-1 at Hickey Field. Sophomore striker Cora Keohane scored her first collegiate goal for the Saints, who suffered their second straight 2-1 setback at Hickey Field after having been unbeaten in 14 of their previous 15 matches in the facility.

Lehigh (1-3-1) held decided advantages in both shots (20-5) and corners (10-2), but Siena (0-5-2) held strong in preserving a scoreless stalemate until deep into the match.

In the 63rd minute the Mountain Hawks finally broke through off the foot of Sophia Lis, however the lead would be short-lived. The resilient Saints netted the equalizer just 90 seconds later, when Keohane forced a turnover, dribbled in, and blasted a shot from the top of the 18 which she tucked into the top right corner.

But Lehigh struck last in the 85th minute on a long shot off a counter from Lyght to prevail over Siena by an identical 2-1 score for the second straight season.

Brooke Boermeester and Angela Fini each logged action in goal for the Saints, recording three and two saves, respectively.

Siena will now have nine days to regroup before concluding its season long four-match homestand – and kicking off league action – next Saturday, Sept. 17 vs. MAAC rival Fairfield at 1 p.m.
