Men’s Soccer Makes Point at Boston College

Saints Earned Tie Against Power Five Foe

NEWTON, MA – Rebounding off a tough road loss last weekend, Siena Men's Soccer (2-1-1) showed that it can be competitive no matter who the opponent. The Saints went east to rainy Newton, Massachusetts and left with a point, playing ACC foe Boston College (2-1-1) to a 1-1 draw at the Newton Soccer Complex Tuesday evening.

The draw continued the Saints' best start to a season since 2014, and gave them their first point against a Power Five opponent since upsetting a ranked Ohio State squad back on August 29, 2011. Siena has now also gone unbeaten against the Eagles in two straight meetings.

Playing through unfavorable weather conditions in the midst of a stretch of three of five matches on the road to begin the season, Siena had to work back from a halftime deficit, with the home team getting on the board via a header from eight yards out in the 36th minute. Boston College collected all eight shots and three corner kicks during the first half.

Despite registering just three shots during the entirety of the match, the Green and Gold found the stat sheet and the scoreboard in the 66th minute, with redshirt-senior Antonio Linge knocking a deflection in the box up top for his first goal of the season. The Saints' other two shots were recorded by freshman Magnus Saaby, while the team successfully defended against five more BC tries during the final 45 minutes.

Competing in his 66th career match, graduate student goalkeeper Greg Monroe made three saves on the evening, with his first one going as number 300 for his career and making him just the fourth Saint to log 300 saves.

Siena will next return home for the second time this season, playing host to Hartford on Sunday, September 11 at 3 PM on Hickey Field.
