Siena Basketball Wraps Up Western New York Swing at Canisius Sunday

Saints in Search of First Western New York Sweep in Seven Years

BUFFALO, NY – Siena Basketball looks to secure its first sweep of the annual Western New York trip in seven years when the Saints take on Canisius Sunday at noon at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Siena (12-5, 6-0) enters its Western New York finale riding a seven-game win streak, including four straight road triumphs. The Saints trailed by as many as 10 points and led for just 6:22 Friday night at Niagara, but generated a key 11-2 run down the stretch to rally for a 70-64 victory. As a result, Siena put themselves in position for a chance to sweep the Western New York trip for just the sixth time in 27 tries, and first time since 2016.

To accomplish that feat, however, the Saints will need to take care of a Canisius (4-12, 2-5) squad which has doubled up Siena 14-7 over the past 21 meetings. Moreover, the Saints have dropped five straight and eight of their last nine at the Koessler Athletic Center. Siena is just 15-34 (.306) all-time against the Golden Griffins in Buffalo.

Griffin Della Penna and Richard Walsh have the call of the game on ESPN3, which can be watched by clicking the corresponding link. The "Voice of the Saints" Emmanuel Berbari and Conner Fenlon '12 have the radio call of the action courtside from the Koessler Athletic Center, locally in the Capital Region on ALT 104.9 FM and online at alt1049albany.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 11:30 a.m.
