Swimming & Diving Wins Three to Begin 2023

Saints Swept a Quad Meet to Commence Second Leg of Season

JERSEY CITY, NJ – In an exciting afternoon which came down to the final relay, Siena Swimming & Diving battled its way to a trio of dual meet victories to continue what has been the most successful season in recent memory. The Saints (8-3, 2-0) took home wins over St. Francis Brooklyn (138-137), first-time foe Stonehill (204-69), and MAAC foe Saint Peter's (216-42) Saturday afternoon at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The Green and Gold completed MAAC regular season action with a perfect 2-0 mark, and have reached eight dual meet wins for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign (excluding wins counted at the Catholic Invitational in 2011, 2012, and 2015). The Saints have also completed a perfect conference slate for the first time in seven years.

The Saints won three individual events on the afternoon, with senior Rory Kalac placing first in both the 50 free (24.45) and the 100 free (53.92) and sophomore Kylie Carter winning the 200 free (2:00.01). Carter also took second place in the 50 free (25.54)

Senior Reilly King placed second in the 1000 free (11:13.86), while sophomores Maddie Buck (2:01.83) and Shaylea Triller (2:01.94) completed a Siena sweep of the top three positions in the 200 free. Junior Audrey Shultz (1:09.53) went for second in the 100 breast (1:09.53), while classmate Demi Bobarakis (2:18.06) finished second in the 200 fly.

The Saints got solid scoring in one-meter diving, with sophomore Talia Spenziero taking second (191.70) and senior Lydia Delano taking third (187.65).

Triller went on to take second in the 100 free (55.05) as well, while Shultz (2:27.45), freshman Tori Spacciapolli (2:33.25) and Carter (2:35.18) went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast. King (5:26.79), senior Lauren Ostrander (5:33.12), and Buck (5:33.93) did the same in the 500 free, while senior Elisabeth Balicanta (1:01.63) and Bobarakis (1:01.64) placed second and third in the 100 fly.

Siena saved the best for last, taking the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay to secure the win over the Terriers. The team of Triller, freshman Kaci Owens, Balicanta, and Kalac swam a time of 1:40.26, while the group of Bobarakis, freshman Mya Reed, junior Natalie Colaizzo, and sophomore Maddie Buck recorded a time of 1:44.27, over a second faster than the top St. Francis group.

The Green and Gold will have a quick turnaround following its Saturday success, retuning home on Sunday, January 15 to Host Vermont at Noon inside the Siena Swim Center.
