Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month Named for November

Men’s Tennis’ Moro, Volleyball’s Johnsson Recognized

LOUDONVILLE, NY – A pair of Siena upperclassmen took home the latest Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month honors. Men's Tennis graduate student Andrea Moro and Volleyball senior Meghan Johnsson were honored for the month of November.

A three-year member of the program after transferring from Jacksonville State, Moro competed at the No. 6 singles spot this fall, going 2-2 in singles action and 1-0 in doubles play. The Sassari, Italy product helped the Saints capture the 2023 MAAC title and the program's first NCAA Tournament berth, and was named the Siena College Male Comeback Player of the Year after rebounding from injury.

A 2023 graduate with a 3.82 GPA, Moro is pursuing his MBA this year, and has earned MAAC All-Academic Team, MAAC Academic Honor Roll, ITA All-Academic Scholar, and Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar accolades.
A four-year member of the program, Johnsson's Siena career included 38 kills, 1238 assists, 80 service aces and 350 blocks, ranking ninth in program history in career assists. The Fairport, NY native played in 21 matches this past season recording double-digit assists in eight contests.

An economics major with a 3.8 cumulative GPA, Johnsson has been a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll throughout her collegiate career, and was a CSC Academic All-District selection following her junior season.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954 and was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
