BUFFALO, NY – Siena Swimming & Diving continued its time at the 2023 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships with more All-MAAC finishes and top times. The Saints remain in sixth place following three days of action at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.
The Green and Gold finished day three with 211 points to hold a 13-point lead over seventh-place Rider and trail fifth-place Canisius by 40 points.
The day was highlighted by sophomore Maddie Buck and freshman Tori Spacciapolli turning in All-MAAC finishes in a pair of events. Buck highlighted a full slate of Siena MAAC Finalist qualifiers by taking seventh place in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.20. Spacciapolli took seventh in the 100 breast with a mark of 1:08.08, after swimming a personal best time in the preliminary round.
Spacciapolli's prelim time of 1:06.06 was good for fourth on the Program's All-Time Top Ten Performers List, while sophomore Olivia Martin moved into sixth in the event with a time of 1:06.22 for a tenth-place finish during the MAAC Final B heat.
The Saints placed an outstanding six swimmers in the 200 free MAAC finals to claim the title of the team with the most swimmers in one final so far on the week. Aside from Buck's second All-MAAC honor in the event, the B heat included senior Lauren Ostrander (11th, 1:56.19), senior Rory Kalac (12th, 1:56.65), sophomore Shaylea Triller (14th, 1:57.13), senior Reilly King (15th, 1:57.31), and sophomore Kylie Carter (16th, 1:57.68). Triller registered new personal best times in both rounds of the event, while freshman Mya Reed turned in a new personal mark of 2:02.82 in the preliminary round.
The 100 breast also featured junior Audrey Shultz aside from Spacciapolli and Martin, with Shultz finishing 11th as a MAAC Finalist with a time of 1:06.63. Senior Maggie Caputo swam a best time of 1:09.28 in the event during the preliminary round. Senior Elisabeth Balicanta placed 15th in the 100 back finals with a time of 1:00.79, while freshman Brooke Pociask swam a best time of 1:00.85.
Siena ended the night by finishing eighth in the 400-medley relay, with the group of Balicanta, Spacciapolli, junior Demi Bobarakis, and Triller swimming a time of 3:57.05.
The final day of action at the 2023 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will take place on Saturday, February 11 with the 1650 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 100 free, 200 fly, 1-meter diving, and the 400 free relay.
