The Siena Men's Tennis team bounced back in an emphatic way against nonconference opponent Lafayette to pick up a resounding 7-0 sweep at the Schenectady Sportime on Friday.
After a 13-day break from competition, the Saints (4-3) were dominant in singles play by taking all six matches in straight sets. In doubles play, Siena was nearly just as strong, taking two of three matches to earn the doubles point.
It marked the Saints' sixth consecutive win against the Leopards (0-3) in the series.
Juniors
Dante Russo and
Jose Pablo Davila and graduate student
Tomas del Olmo were top performers, winning both on the singles and doubles courts. Russo, playing from the No. 1 position, topped sophomore Arman Ganchi 6-2, 6-1. On the doubles #2 court, Russo teamed with
Edward Vo to outlast Nick McKenzie and Davis Esslinger 7-5.
Davila and del Olmo paired together to best Brady Wisdom and Nash Lovallo 6-3. Del Olmo took care of Jake Magnusson 6-2, 6-1 at the singles #2 spot while Davila earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory against McKenzie at the singles #4 spot.
Two Saints' seniors earned debut victories on the day as Andrea Morro got past Josh Wolfe 6-2, 7-5 at the singles #5 spot and
Marvin Oberli defeated Brady Wisdom 6-3, 6-4.
"The guys played well today from top to bottom," said Siena head tennis coach
Jeff Osborn. "It was true team win."
Siena returns to the courts Friday, February 24 for a 7 p.m. start at Bucknell in Lewisburg, PA.
