LOUDONVILLE, NY – Make it five-in-a-row and seven total MAAC Rookie of the Week awards for Siena Women's Basketball's Teresa Seppala. The freshman guard continues to dominate amongst the league's rookies following the latest announcement by the league on Monday afternoon.
The Tampere, Finland native averaged nearly a double-double with 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over two games last week, with 18 points and eight rebounds against Saint Peter's and her first career double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds against Mount St. Mary's. She shot 43.5 percent from the field (10-23), and 40 percent from three (6-15), while going 6-9 from the field and 4-6 from long range against the Peacocks.
Seppala previously took home MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21, December 12, January 9, January 16, January 23, and January 30, while classmate Elisa Mevius was honored with the award on November 14, November 28, and December 5. Siena has now earned ten MAAC weekly awards in a single season for the first time since the 2014-15 season, when it captured 13 total weekly honors and then-freshman Margot Hetzke won MAAC Rookie of Week accolades nine times. Ten total MAAC Rookie of the Week accolades equals the most in a single campaign in program history, with Seppala overtaking second for the most individual rookie honors won.
