Siena Men's Lacrosse did their job in giving themselves a chance to win at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
Once trailing by as many as four goals on two occasions, the Saints erased early holes of 5-1 and 7-3 to tie it at eight-all on a goal by
Rocco Barbero with 8:08 remaining the game.
But, it was the Big Green (3-0) who made the plays down the stretch to hold on for an 11-8 nonconference victory at Scully-Fahey Field.
Siena (2-2) reeled off a run of four consecutive goals and five of six just past the midway point of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter.
Jack Cavaiolii put one up on the board on a pass from
Zac Schuette to make it 7-4.
George Rusnak struck a little over two minutes later and then
Christian Watts laced in back-to-back goals in a span of one minute and 18 seconds to even it at seven-all with 13:42 left. In doing so, Watts notched his third hat trick of the season and leads the team in goals with 11.
Dartmouth's Emmett Paradine scored to help the Big Green retake the lead, but Barbero's goal evened it. Quinn Moore, Paradine and Nate Davis scored the final three for Dartmouth.
Saints' goalkeeper Chris Yanchoris (2-2) provided his best all-around effort in net, securing a season-high in saves with 13, a season-best .542 save percentage and a team-high seven groundballs.
Siena was outshot 37-26 including 24-17 for shots on goal. Faceoffs, a usual strength of the Saints, was a heavy advantage for Dartmouth. The Big Green won 20 of 23 faceoff opportunities.
Up next, Siena will come home to host Sacred Heart (0-5) on Saturday, March 11 with a 1 p.m. faceoff scheduled at Hickey Field.
