Siena Upperclassmen Honored for Month of February

LOUDONVILLE, NY – A pair of Siena Lacrosse standouts were honored as the latest recipients of the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Awards. Men's Lacrosse Fifth Year George Rusnak and Women's Lacrosse Fifth Year Hannah Field were recognized for the month of February.

A five-year member of the program and team captain this season, Rusnak has recorded 30 goals and 17 assists over 43 career appearances for the Saints. He leads the team in assists and ranks third in scoring so far this season with four goals and six helps, and has recorded multiple assists in three of the first four games of the year.

A native of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Rusnak holds a 3.62 cumulative GPA in finance, and has been a member of the MAAC all-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

A four-year member of the program who came to Siena prior to the 2020 Season, Field is a two-year team captain who has been a consistent presence on the team's defensive line. She has started in 39 of 43 games played in over her Siena career, and has amassed 31 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls.

A product of nearby Watervliet, New York, Field earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and is currently pursuing a Master's in Business Administration with a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954 and was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
