LOUDONVILLE, NY – Timely situational hitting and three perfect innings to close things out from
Billy Rozakis led Siena Baseball to a series-opening 6-4 victory over MAAC rival Marist Friday afternoon at Connors Park.
Siena (6-27, 2-5) took a 5-1 lead through five innings thanks to some well-timed hits. The Saints mounted a two-out bases empty rally in the second, as three straight reached capped by a clutch two-run single by
Aiden Stewart. Siena added a run in the fourth on a bases loaded two-out base knock by
Randall Hien, and tacked on a pair of insurance runs when
Willie Schwarick snuck a single the other way through the right side of the draw-in infield with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Marist (5-26, 1-6) rallied with three runs on four hits in the sixth to pull back within 5-4, and put the leadoff man and potential tying run aboard in the seventh, but Rozakis came on to get the job done and preserve the lead. He induced a double play to get out of the seventh, and retired the side in order in each of the final two frames to register the save.
Siena was paced by a balanced offensive attack once again, as seven different Saints accounted for the team's 10 hits, and six players scored a run apiece. Hien,
Danny Barbero and
Vincent DiNicola registered a pair of hits apiece.
Arlo Marynczak went six-plus innings walking only one and striking out five to earn his second win.
Siena will go for the series win Saturday at 1 p.m.
