Women’s Tennis Clinches Seventh Consecutive Postseason Berth

Saints Cruise Past Rider 6-1

The Siena Women's Tennis program has become a mainstay when it comes to joining the postseason party.

For the seventh consecutive season, the Saints solidified its spot in the MAAC Tournament Postseason with a convincing 6-1 road victory at Rider on Friday afternoon in Lawrenceville, NJ.

Since taking over the program in 2015, Siena head tennis coach Jeff Osborn has led the Saints to the postseason every season while raising a MAAC Championship banner for the school in 2021 under his watch.

The 2019-2020 campaign was the lone season that was interrupted due to the Covid pandemic where the season was cancelled.

On Friday, Siena took the first point by winning two of the first three doubles matches courtesy of the teams of Meagan Brown and Alexa Wilson, who won 6-2 over Agnese Ceccarelli and Daniela Naves from the #1 spot.

Emma Boggiali and Laia Giralt carried the third flight by also winning 6-2 against the team of Raquel Bolin and Andrea Sydow.

Siena received dominant efforts from Giralt, Boggiali and Madeline De Faber-Schumacher, who all won their singles competition in runaway, straight set victories.

Wilson won a more competitive, straight sets match from the singles #3 spot against Naves, 6-4, 6-3.

Maanya Viswanath took three sets to topple Jett Coetzee at the #4 singles spot.

With Boggiali and Viswanath's singles wins, it marked the fifth and sixth players on the roster with double digit singles victories for the season.  De Faber-Schumacher leads the team with 18 singles wins.

Rider dropped to 4-14 overall and 2-3 in MAAC play.

Siena (10-11, 3-2 MAAC) improved to 5-6 in road matches and will now finish out its regular season with a home finale against Niagara (4-11, 1-3 MAAC) on Sunday at noon in conference action from Central Park in Schenectady.

A Niagara loss versus Rider on Saturday or a Siena win over Niagara on Sunday would clinch the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament for the Saints.

Fairfield has locked up the No. 2 seed in the tournament and would face the No. 3 seed.

Quinnipiac has clinched the No. 1 seed and would play the No. 4 seed.
