LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Siena Men's Golf sophomore
Dan Brooks shot a round of -4, 68 to end day one of the 2023 MAAC Men's & Women's Golf Championships tied for the top spot on the men's side. Through 18 holes of play, the Siena men (-3, 285) sit in second place – a stroke off the lead – while the women (+40, 328) are in eighth at Disney's Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Iona (-4, 284) leads on the men's side, while Quinnipiac (+3, 291) holds a one-stroke edge on the women's side.
A native of Dudley, Massachusetts, Brooks recorded seven birdies and eagled the 478-yard, par-5 hole 1 to end the day tied with Fairfield's Killian McGinley for the top individual spot in the men's tournament. As a team, Siena tied for the second-lowest MAAC Championship round in program history.
Two more Saints ended day one inside the men's individual top ten, with senior
Matthew Ferrari in a four-way tie for fourth at -2, 70 and senior
Nolan Crowley in a split for eighth at -1, 71.
Graduate student
Brody Yates (+4, 76) ended the day in a tie for 26
th, while freshman
Austin Giroux began his first MAAC Championship with a round of +6, 78 to tie for 34
th.
On the women's side, freshman
Mackenzie Whitney began her first postseason action with a birdie on the 15
th hole to end the day at +6, 78 in a tie for 18
th individually.
Senior
Isabella Diaz (+10, 82) ended the day tied for 32
nd, while sophomore
Manoela Barcellos and
Jillian Barend each shot +12, 84 to tie for 37
th. Senior
Emily Nash (+16, 88) tied for 41
st in the opening round.
Both Siena squads will look to make up ground in day two action at the 2023 MAAC Championships on Saturday, April 21 beginning at 7:30 AM.
