LOUDONVILLE, NY – Army West Point scored 11 runs from the fifth inning on to pull away from Siena Baseball 13-1 in midweek action at Connors Park.
All nine starters recorded hits and eight scored for Army West Point (16-12, 6-2), which completed the home-and-home sweep of Siena (4-25, 0-3). Ross Friedrick knocked in three runs, Braden Golinski had three hits and drove in a pair, and Derek Berg scored three times while adding a pair of hits and RBI to pace the Black Knights.
Army scored twice in the first before adding a pair of insurance runs in the fifth, and tacked on three more in the sixth to build a commanding 7-0 lead. The Black Knights put it away with a six-run final frame.
Five Army pitchers combined to scatter five hits and just one run while collectively walking only three and striking out 13 Saints. Siena got on the board in the ninth, as freshman
Nick Bergamotto hit his first collegiate home run to break up the shutout.
The Saints continue their season-long nine-game homestand with a three-game Easter Weekend series vs. MAAC rival Rider. The series-opener was previously postponed due to Thursday's inclement weather forecast, with the teams now slated to start things off with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at Connors Park.
