Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late surge pushes Quinnipiac past Siena

Five Saints score twice

Nine different Saints tallied at least one point and five others scored twice, but the balanced attack wasn't quite enough as Siena Men's Lacrosse lost a seesaw affair 14-12 in the closing minutes at Quinnipiac's Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon in MAAC action.

It appeared that the Saints (5-5 overall, 3-3 MAAC) might pull away when it reeled off five unanswered goals from late in the second quarter to early in the third quarter to grab a 10-6 advantage after a Pratt Reynolds unassisted goal with 10:35 remaining.

But, the Bobcats (5-5 overall, 3-3 MAAC) responded by scoring six of the game's next seven goals to go up 12-11 with 7:56 left in the game on a goal by Quinnipiac's Trevor Douglas.

Saints fifth-year attack George Rusnak knotted the game at 12 apiece with 5:34 left.

The Bobcats came alive in the final 2:01 by receiving scores from Steven Germain and Dylan Donnery to conclude the scoring in the game.

Christopher Yanchoris made a valiant effort in the cage for the Saints as the fifth-year goalkeeper produced another big effort with 15 saves to keep Siena in it.

Nearly all the team statistical categories were close with exception to ground ball totals where Quinnipiac held a 36-22 advantage.

Each team took 29 shots on goal and Siena won 15 of 28 face offs.

Senior Dylan Pape returned to the lineup for the first time since March 11 and won 12 of 22 face offs and secured a team-high five ground balls.

Saints freshman Travis Fry recorded his first multi-goal game with two scores.  Christian Watts, Reynolds, Rusnak and Zac Schuette also all scored twice.

Watts increased his consecutive point streak to 14 games dating back to last season, with two more goals to bring his team-leading total to 24 goals on the season.

The fifth-year midfielder from East Aurora, NY has now scored in 11 consecutive games and has totaled 84 career points.

Siena defense Trevor Marsala was credited with one caused turnover so now the Port Jefferson Station, NY native is tied with Chris Vivano (2006-2009), who had 53 caused turnovers in his Green and Gold career.

Jack Drilllock (2017-2020), ranks as the all-time leader with 54.

The Green & Gold returns home on Wednesday, April 12 against Marist for a noon faceoff that will be broadcast on ESPNU.

It will be the first ever Gold Rush Lacrosse Game.

The first 200 fans will receive special giveaways and fans are encouraged to wear gold to support the team.
