Quinnipiac Slugs Past Saints in Series Opener

Bobcats Pound Out 14 Hits, Three Homers

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Quinnipiac hung a crooked number with five runs in the fourth and added five more insurance runs total over the final three innings to defeat Siena Baseball 10-1 in the series-opener at Connors Park.

Quinnipiac (26-24, 14-8) pounded out 14 hits including three home runs to win their seventh straight overall, and clinch the program's first MAAC Tournament berth in four years. The Bobcats have scored in double digits six times during their seven-game winning streak, while averaging a whopping 14.6 runs overall.

Siena (14-39, 7-15) struck first on a second inning solo home run by Danny Barbero. But the Saints only managed to muster three singles and a double otherwise off Quinnipiac starter Kevin Seitter (seven innings) and reliever Sam Favieri (two innings), who combined to strike out nine without issuing a walk.

The Bobcats broke through with five runs on six hits during the decisive fourth inning. Each of the first six batters in the frame registered hits, the final five of which went for extra bases. Braydon Seaburg put Quinnipiac on top with a three-run homer, while McGwire Tuffy capped the inning with a two-run double.

Sebastian Mueller (three RBI) and Sean Swenson also homered for the Bobcats which had six different players register multi-hit performances. Quinnipiac had eight extra base hits on the afternoon.

Fifth-year staff ace Arlo Marynczak struck out five over 6.1 innings in his final collegiate start for Siena. He departs second all-time in program history with 232 career strikeouts, while his 86 strikeouts this spring were the fifth-most in program single-season history.

The Saints wrap up the series – and their season – Friday with doubleheader action beginning at noon. The program will honor its seven seniors in a pregame ceremony at approximately 11:35 a.m.
