LOUDONVILLE, NY – Giavanna Inzerillo scored twice and Abbie Burgess added a pair of assists as five-time defending Northeast Conference Regular Season Champion Central Connecticut defeated Siena Women's Soccer 3-0 in the season-opener at Hickey Field.
 
Siena held a 14-13 advantage in shots, but Central Connecticut possessed an 8-2 margin in shots on target to take the season-opener from the Saints for the second straight year.
 
CCSU scored on their first shot of the season in the 14^th minute, with Inzerillo finishing a feed from Burgess. The Blue Devils then pulled away early in the second half with a pair of strikes just eight minutes apart from Aoife Horgan (55') and Inzerillo (63').
 
Annie Bagnall and Julia Dening led Siena offensively with four shots apiece, with Dening registering both of the squad's shots on target in the first half.
 
Brooke Boermeester stopped five shots for the Saints, while Caitlin Murphy made two saves to earn the clean sheet for CCSU.
 
Siena faces another stiff test Sunday when they welcome a Power Five foe to Loudonville for just the second time in program history. The Saints host ACC opponent Syracuse at 1 p.m. to close out the opening weekend.
