Siena Volleyball opened its 45
th varsity season on Friday with a 3-0 defeat (25-16, 25-17, 26-24) versus the hosts at the Hofstra Invitational at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center in Hempstead, NY.
The Saints played better volleyball as the match wore on, racing out an 8-3 lead in the third set and holding a lead as late as 21-20 on a kill from
Monet Latunde.
But the host Pride were able to put down a pair of kills and took advantage of a Saints' attacking error to hold them off down the stretch. There were eight ties and one lead change in the final set.
Junior
Sara Wagner had five kills, five digs, and three aces. Newcomer
Sina Toroslu had five kills, three blocks and an ace in her Saints' debut.
Claire Isaksen lead the Saints with 11 assists, four digs and an ace.
Siena will be back in action on Saturday in a day-evening doubleheader at the Hofstra Invitational.
They'll take on Delaware State at 11 AM followed by a meeting against NJIT at 4:30 PM.
