LOUDONVILLE, NY – After an impactful decade of leading the Siena Men's and Women's Cross Country & Track programs to unprecedented success, John Kenworthy has informed Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D'Argenio that he has accepted a new position as the head women's cross country & track coach at Brown University.
"Coach Kenworthy propelled the Siena Cross Country & Track programs to new heights over the past decade, and was instrumental in the revitalization of the indoor and outdoor track teams, which has led to 25 to 30 new students at Siena. We are extremely appreciative of his hard work and the impact he made on the College, the program, and the student athletes. We wish John the very best as he moves on in his coaching career to Brown."
Since joining the program as the youngest head coach in the department in 2013, Kenworthy guided the Saints to several individual MAAC Championships and built consistent success within all six programs during all three seasons.
"I want to thank John D'Argenio and the entire Siena community for giving me the opportunity to build and lead the Siena Cross Country and Track program over the past decade," Kenworthy said. "The support of the program has allowed us to become one of the best cross country programs in the Northeast, and I couldn't be prouder of my time at Siena. My life has moved in a different direction, but Siena will always be home to me and I look forward to being a fan from afar."
Under Kenworthy's direction, Siena Cross Country & Track took home 16 MAAC individual championships, including one in cross country, seven in indoor track, and eight in outdoor track. This past season, the Saints claimed a MAAC title during all three seasons for the first time ever, and won multiple titles in five of Kenworthy's final six MAAC Championship meets with the program. Both cross country programs finished inside the top-five at the MAAC Championships in each of the last five years, culminating with a pair of second place finishes at the 2022 postseason meet hosted by Siena at The Crossings of Colonie.
Both also reached new heights academically under Kenworthy's direction, producing record GPA's, record honorees on the MAAC All-Academic Team, and recent perfect Academic Progress Rates (APR) for all programs. Kenworthy also produced the program's first four USTFCCCA All-Academic selections, Siena's first-ever Capital District Sports Women of the Year winner, and the school's first-ever MAAC Student Athlete of the Year recipient.
Longtime assistant coach
Nick Miller '16, a former standout runner who enters his seventh season on staff with the program, will serve as interim head coach, effective immediately.
