LOUDONVILLE, NY – Ellie Sciancalepore made six of her seven saves in the first half and Chloe Fisher's long-distance prayer in the 48
th minute was answered as Rider snuck past Siena Women's Soccer 1-0 at Hickey Field.
Siena (1-5-2, 0-1-1) dominated the first half and played better than even in the second half, but were stonewalled by the reigning MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in a frustrating defeat. The Saints out-shot Rider (3-4-1, 1-1-0) by a commanding 20-7 margin on the afternoon, while both teams attempted four corners apiece. The 20 shots marked a season-high.
Siena, which entered play averaging 11.3 shots, dominated the Broncs to the tune of a 13-3 shot advantage in the first half. But Sciancalepore made five saves alone within the first 22 minutes, including several acrobatic stops, to preserve the stalemate.
Rider took advantage making the most of one of its few opportunities just 2:42 into the second half, when the Kansas State transfer Fisher took a chance and blasted a 40-plus yard look into the top left corner. The Saints pressed for the equalizer, but Sciancalepore made her final stop in the waning seconds to seal it.
Megan Stowell led the way offensively for Siena with six shots, three of which were on target, while
Micaiah Croce added five shots.
Angela Fini made two saves.
After playing three of its last four at home, Siena begins a season-long three-match road trip next week. The Saints wrap up their non-conference schedule at Vermont Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
