th minute goal by Lindsay McShea proved to be the difference as Sacred Heart defeated Siena Women's Soccer 1-0 in Connecticut.
Sacred Heart (2-8-3, 2-3-2) capitalized off of a Siena (6-7-2, 3-3-2) turnover in their defensive half to secure the decisive score. Morgan Bovardi fed McShea whose long-range blast tucked inside the near left post.
The Pioneers held an 18-14 advantage in shots, while the Saints harbored a 6-4 margin in corners in an evenly played match.
Cate Flanagan and
Megan Stowell led the way with three shots apiece for Siena who was shutout for the fourth time in their past six matches.
Cate Burns made four saves for the Saints who have now dropped both matches against their new MAAC foes Merrimack and Sacred Heart by identical 1-0 scores on the road.
Kyran Thievon also stopped four shots to register the clean sheet for the Pioneers, which secured their first home win of the season on their Senior Day.
Siena will look to bounce back when they return home to host Manhattan Wednesday at 3 p.m.
