LOUDONVILLE, NY – Steve Karbowski is now the winningest coach in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer history, while
Megan Stowell owns family bragging rights. Stowell tallied three points in a head-to-head battle with her twin sister, propelling Siena to a crucial three points in the MAAC Standings with a 3-0 win over Manhattan on Hickey Field.
Siena (7-7-2, 4-3-2) achieved a thoroughly impressive triumph to secure the 133
rd career MAAC victory for Karbowski – including both conference regular season and tournament action – to surpass former Niagara coach Peter Veltri and become the winningest coach in league history.
The Saints dominated a Manhattan (7-5-2, 3-3-2) squad which they had entered the day tied with for fourth in the MAAC Standings, with the Jaspers also holding a match in hand. Siena out-shot Manhattan 18-4 while posting their first double clean sheet of the season, holding the Jaspers both scoreless and without a shot on goal.
Stowell opened the scoring in the 19
th minute as No. 6 scored her sixth goal this fall. The tally proved to be the third match winning goal of the season for Stowell, who once again emerged victorious in the latest installment of the "Stowell Bowl." Megan and the Saints defeated her older sister Casey and UAlbany 2-0 last month, before also getting the better of her twin sister Kaylee and Manhattan today.
Annie Bagnall added a key momentum building tally right before the break in the 41
st minute. Building the attack, Stowell played a ball wide to
Iona Snape who one-timed a feed into the box which Bagnall corralled and finished for her third goal of the season.
Maya Costa added an insurance tally with her first goal of the season in the 63
rd minute as Siena ran its unbeaten streak over the Jaspers to six (3-0-3).
Cate Flanagan and
Cora Keohane assisted on the score. The three goals allowed by Manhattan matched the total surrendered in their previous five matches combined.
Cate Burns had a quiet afternoon in goal thanks to the stout defense in front of her as the freshman was not called upon to make a save while securing her fifth shutout.
Meanwhile, Margaret Brunk was peppered throughout and made nine saves for the Jaspers.
The Saints head back on the road when they take on Rider Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
