The future is now for Siena Women's Soccer. The current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference co-leading scorers in sophomore
Megan Stowell and freshman
Catherine Rogers connected for a milestone goal in a 2-0 victory at Rider, pushing the Saints closer towards securing the program's first postseason berth in three years.
Rogers fed Stowell to open the scoring in the 27
th minute in another beautiful connection between the Siena (8-7-2, 5-3-2) dynamic duo. On the tally, the underclassmen each reached the 20-point mark on the season with identical seven-goal, six-assist scoring lines, while also matching each other for the MAAC scoring lead. Stowell and Rogers are the first Saints teammates to each register a 20-point season in the same year since Brittany Pfaff and Hall of Famers Ashleigh Barone and Tabitha Tice all eclipsed the mark during the 2010 MAAC Championship season.
Siena finished things off with an insurance tally in the 56
th minute to secure their first victory on Ben Cohen Field in seven years and just their second since 2009. A centering feed from
Iona Snape was re-directed into the top corner by
Cate Flanagan as the Saints secured their fifth win of the season away from home, matching the most since winning a program-record eight true road contests in 2010.
The Saints held a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 5-4 margin in corners.
Cate Burns made four saves to put an exclamation point on a scoreless week for the Siena back line, which registered the third shutout in four matches for the unit.
The MAAC preseason goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore also stopped four shots for Rider (2-9-1, 1-6-1) which is now winless spanning its past eight home matches (0-6-2) dating back to last season.
Fresh off a two-win week, the Saints head into the stretch run with momentum. With just two regular season matches remaining for Siena – and a bye sandwiched in between – the Saints have a stranglehold on fourth place in the MAAC Standings, both five points back of third-place Fairfield and clear of fifth-place Manhattan. Siena was predicted to finish ninth according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Saints can clinch their first MAAC Tournament berth in three years as soon as Wednesday. Siena makes the always challenging mid-week trek to Niagara for a 3 p.m. kick.
