LOUDONVILLE, NY – Redshirt freshman
Salme Adeele Hollas came alive down the stretch with five of the last six Siena points on kills, the team produced a season-high 15 total blocks and four players had double digits in kills as Siena Volleyball outlasted Marist 3-2 (24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12) to pick up a conference victory at the UHY Center on Wednesday night.
Hollas, the Tartu, Estonia native, was key in orchestrating a comeback in the fifth—and deciding—set. The Saints (2-12, 1-2 MAAC) trailed 4-0 to begin, but was led back into it with a pair of kills from
Sara Wagner and another from
Doga Diraz. With senior setter
Claire Isaksen serving, the Saints went on a 6-0 run to capture an 8-5 advantage.
From there, it was Hollas who received feeds from both Isaksen and
Alandra Hasbrouck to rattle off five kills to secure the victory.
Siena hit .231 for the match, its third highest percentage this season and improved to 2-1 this year when the team hits .200 and above.
Hollas finished with 17 kills, 11 digs and two blocks while Wagner had 16 kills, nine digs and four blocks.
Olga Sawinska (.350) and
Doga Diraz (.250) each had 10 kills. Hasbrouck had a career-high 20 assists with eight digs.
Grace Wilhelm hit double digits in digs for a single match for the second time this season with 10.
The Red Foxes (0-13, 0-3 MAAC) were led by Sara Dasic (13 kills and 11 digs) and Jamison White (43 assists).
Siena improved to 47-31 all-time against Marist in the series that began in 1978.
