Men’s Soccer Dealt First MAAC Loss

Rider Strikes Late to Top Siena

A 77th minute goal off the foot of Jack McGeechan proved to be the difference maker as the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion Rider Broncs handed Siena Men's Soccer its first league loss of the season by a 1-0 score on Saturday evening from Lawrenceville, NJ.

Siena (5-4-5, 3-1-2 MAAC) was out-shot by Rider (10-4-0, 4-1-0 MAAC) 14-8 in the match, and 6-5 on-goal. Mario Navarro Perez (three) and Mark Cajamarca (two) combined for five of the team's eight shots. Bennet Glinder made five saves in goal, while counterpart Adam Salama matched with five of his own.

Scoring chances were few and far between in the first half with the sides combined for five shots on target. Cole Hellert and Cajamarca both fired off shots on target over the last eight minutes of the opening frame, while Glinder stopped each of the Broncs' three looks on goal to enter the half scoreless.

With the match still scoreless in the 68th minute, Navarro Perez broke behind the defense for a clear look at goal. Closing in from the left side of the post, the sophomore fired across the the opposite corner, but was denied by Salama as the ball neared the line.

Just under 10 minutes later, McGeechan broke through for the lone goal of the match from a Momo Diop assist. Jesper Schone Vogtengen and Cajamarca registered shots on goal minutes later, but both were stopped by Salama as Rider held off the Saints.

Siena is back in action next Saturday, Nov. 2 when the team hosts Mount St. Mary's for Senior Day at 3 p.m. from Hickey Field.
